Feasibility of pervious concrete as engineered material arresting system for airport runway safety areas

چکیده

Abstract From the late 1960’s airport engineers developed special paving material for arresting aircraft gears in event of overrun as a partial extension runway end safety area. Such pavement surface material, inverting general concept, should be crushed over first pass gear wheels resulting to sink and being promptly arrested abrupt loss velocity, preferability avoiding lives injuries well with minimum risks airplane structural integrity. Herein is analyzed discussed possible application pervious concrete such task by simulating an actual situation (Congonhas airport) understanding effects on crushable layer, pointing out stresses, deflections required strengths material. Simulations regarded critical A 320-200 fire-fighters cars pavements. Analysis complied Federal Aviation Administration requirements non-standard structures simulation stresses trough finite element method medium-thickened plates. Compressive along flexural excessive besides predictable punching shear allowed conclude feasibility using low strength alternative engineered built system.

Runway Scheduling for Charlotte Douglas International Airport

This paper explores a multiple runway scheduling problem and generates the schedule for arrivals, departures and crossing aircraft planning to use the runways within a given planning horizon. We present a mixed integer linear programming-based model that explicitly considers separation criteria between pairs of aircraft and also incorporates various Traffic Management Initiatives. It also inclu...

Investigation of Existing Engineered Material Arresting System at Three U.s. Airports

This paper discusses the results from the maintenance evaluation of Engineered Material Arresting System (EMAS) at three U.S. airports: Greenville Downtown Airport (GMU), SC, Roanoke Regional Airport (ROA), VA, and Burbank Airport (BUR), CA. EMAS is a softer ground aircraft arresting system approved by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to stop overrunning aircraft. In numerous occasions...

Performance ofthe Runway-Status Light System at Logan Airport

.. Runway incursions are a persistent problem in airport ground-movement operations. Numerous critical conflicts and several fatal accidents have occurred as a result of unauthorized or otherwise inappropriate entry of aircra& or surface vehicles onto an active runway. Many of these conflicts developed quickly, leaving little time for effective intervention by either the controller or the pilot...

Optimal Selection of Airport Runway Configurations

We present a mixed integer programming (MIP) model to solve the problems of (i) selecting an airport’s optimal sequence of runway configurations and (ii) determining the optimal balance of arrivals and departures to be served at any moment. These problems, the runway configuration management (RCM) problem and the arrival/departure runway balancing (ADRB) problem, respectively, are of critical i...
