Fault Detection and Protection Strategy for Islanded Inverter-Based Microgrids

This article proposes a fault detection and protection strategy for islanded inverter-based microgrids (IBMGs). Reliable accurate is one of the main challenges in proliferation modern (MGs). Considering limited current voltage–frequency-controlled distributed energy resources (VF-IBDERs), more challenging IBMGs. In this regard, control scheme VF-IBDER with limiting plays an important role. Due to currents close converter nominal current, conventional methods do not work properly. addition, bidirectional worsen coordination. article, first, analytical sequence network modeling VF-IBDERs derived specify their behavior under conditions. Then, voltage-restrained negative-sequence resistance-based approach proposed, which based on networks. quantity inherently detects its direction independent magnitude. The proposed feature can be employed both communication-assisted coordination strategies. definite-time grading employed. Finally, performance demonstrated by applying different faults test MG PSCAD/EMTDC environment.
