Fatigue Tests and Failure Mechanism of Rib-to-Deck Welded Joints in Steel Bridge

چکیده

The fatigue cracks of rib-to-deck welded joints in an orthotropic steel deck are one the critical conundrums that restrict sustainable development bridges. Double-sided were achieved by introducing internal welding technology to overcome initial “crack-like” manufacturing defects at roots single-sided joints. Through observation macro-section joint, differences between welding, partial-penetration and full-penetration compared. Relying on Shenzhen–Zhongshan link, failure mechanism clarified nominal stress structural methods, those double-sided determined through tests. strength is higher than FAT90 Chinese standard FAT C American standard. significantly within a ± 2σ range main S-N curves method. It suggested adopt practice, ensure penetration rate beyond 80%. trial data limited, further tests needed confirm results.

Fatigue Life of Repaired Welded Tubular Joints

In this study, the effect of repair on fatigue life of tubular joints is investigated. Six cracked specimens precedently subjected to fatigue loading undergone to weld repair. Two of those specimens were shot peened before primary fatigue loading.  It is shown that repair gives rise to about 150% increase in fatigue life for original specimens while the increase of fatigue life for shot-peened ...

Prospect of High-performance Welded Steel Bridge

The development of several grades of high-performance steel (HPS) with yield strengths of the order of 480 to 690 MPa (even more) with improved weldability, toughness and corrosion resistance have changed the scenario of fabrication of welded steel bridges for highway and rail bridge constructions. The HPS possesses the optimum combination of properties required to build cost-effective structur...

The Influence of Ultrasonic Impact Treatment on Fatigue Behaviour of Welded Joints in High-strength Steel

The unabated growth of the steel industry and progressively increasing operating loads on metal structures generate a need for a search for optimum engineering solutions to improve the loadcarrying capacity and reduce metal consumption. One way of resolving this problem is to utilise high-strength steels. It is common knowledge however that the improvement of the steel strength is accompanied b...

Fatigue Assessment of Complex Welded Steel Structures

To improve the usage of material in fatigue loaded complex welded structures a better calculation method (based on FEA) is needed than what is available on the market and an improved management of weld quality. Improved FE-procedures are directly applicable to design of generic structural components within virtually all industries using CAD and FEtools, irrespective of industrial sector. More a...

Ultra low cycle fatigue of welded steel joints under multiaxial loading

Ultra low cycle fatigue (ULCF) is a phenomenon that can be summarily defined as the deterioration of material properties under high amplitude cyclic loading, under which failure is reached typically within ten to twenty cycles. This phenomenon is observed in extreme loading scenarios such as earthquakes or exceptional winds where large cyclic strains are expected. Particularly sensitive are str...
