Fatigue safety level provided by Brazilian design standards for a prestressed girder highway bridge

چکیده

Abstract It is well known that highway bridges are subjected to fatigue as they work under live loads with different frequencies and amplitude. The safety level for required by Brazilian codes still unknown, especially prestressed concrete girders. Also, current studies on reliability of only evaluate bending. This assesses the provided design standards a bridge, using weigh-in-motion (WIM) data an important federal highway, BR-381 (Fernão Dias Highway). Palmgren-Miner rule considered service life indexes, from point view, girders designed according codes. Using limited complete prestressing levels, traffic volumes considered. found levels longitudinal transverse reinforcements larger than ones recommended international literature.

Optimization of Precast Prestressed Concrete Bridge Girder Systems

60 A practical approach to the optimal design of precast, prestressed concrete highway bridge girder systems is presented. The approach aims at standardizing the optimal design of bridge systems, as opposed to standardizing girder sections. Structural system optimization is shown to be more relevant than conventional girder optimization for an arbitrarily chosen structural system. Bridge system...

First Smart Prestressed Concrete Highway Bridge in Canada

Deterioration of concrete members due to corrosion of steel reinforcements is one of the major problems which reduces the service life time of bridges, especially in Canada due to the use of de·icier applications. The cost of correcting corrosion-induced distress in bridges is high compared to the capital cost of the structure. To overcome this problem, the City of Calgary has decided to constr...

Shear Strengthening Using Cfrp Sheets for a Prestressed Concrete Highway Bridge in Manitoba, Canada

The use of heavier trucks demanded upgrading of a twenty-seven year old bridge in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Analysis of the precast prestressed concrete girders using the current AASHTO Code indicates a deficiency in the shear capacity. Shear strengthening using Carbon Fibre Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) sheets provides a low-cost solution by increasing the speed of construction and reducing traf...
