Fatigue Performance of High- and Low-Strength Repaired Welded Steel Joints

چکیده

Large portions of infrastructure buildings, for example highway- and railway bridges, are steel constructions reach the end their service life, as a reason an increase traffic volume. As lifetime extension commonly used weld detail (transverse stiffener) these structures, validated approach repair was proposed in this study. For this, welded joints made S355J2+N S960QL steels were subjected to cyclic loading until pre-determined crack depth reached. The cracks detected by non-destructive testing methods repaired removal material around re-welding with gas metal arc welding (GMAW). Then, specimens again. hardness, geometry, residual stress state investigated both original- conditions. It determined that nearly all reached at least fatigue life original specimen.

Fatigue Life of Repaired Welded Tubular Joints

In this study, the effect of repair on fatigue life of tubular joints is investigated. Six cracked specimens precedently subjected to fatigue loading undergone to weld repair. Two of those specimens were shot peened before primary fatigue loading.  It is shown that repair gives rise to about 150% increase in fatigue life for original specimens while the increase of fatigue life for shot-peened ...

The Influence of Ultrasonic Impact Treatment on Fatigue Behaviour of Welded Joints in High-strength Steel

The unabated growth of the steel industry and progressively increasing operating loads on metal structures generate a need for a search for optimum engineering solutions to improve the loadcarrying capacity and reduce metal consumption. One way of resolving this problem is to utilise high-strength steels. It is common knowledge however that the improvement of the steel strength is accompanied b...

Improving Fatigue Strength of Welded Joints by Ultrasonic Impact Treatment

Enhancement in fatigue performance of welded joints by Ultrasonic Impact Treatment (UIT) was evaluated with large-scale rolled beam and built-up specimens having yield strength of 345 to 760 MPa. Eighteen rolled-beam specimens having welded details at cover plates and transverse stiffeners and eight built-up specimens having only transverse stiffener details were fatigue tested after treating t...

Ultra low cycle fatigue of welded steel joints under multiaxial loading

Ultra low cycle fatigue (ULCF) is a phenomenon that can be summarily defined as the deterioration of material properties under high amplitude cyclic loading, under which failure is reached typically within ten to twenty cycles. This phenomenon is observed in extreme loading scenarios such as earthquakes or exceptional winds where large cyclic strains are expected. Particularly sensitive are str...

Prospect of High-performance Welded Steel Bridge

The development of several grades of high-performance steel (HPS) with yield strengths of the order of 480 to 690 MPa (even more) with improved weldability, toughness and corrosion resistance have changed the scenario of fabrication of welded steel bridges for highway and rail bridge constructions. The HPS possesses the optimum combination of properties required to build cost-effective structur...
