چکیده
Abstract Glass fibre reinforced polymer composites are frequently used in marine applications where the combined effects of cyclic loads and seawater environment limit their fatigue life. This paper aims to demonstrate degradation that causes stiffness composites. Three-point bending properties cross-ply woven glass commonly manufacture tidal turbine blades reported for both wet dry conditions. Failure analysis based on Digital Image Correlation method was performed identify damaged zones test coupon surface follow failure progression during tests. To characterize damage composite, has been monitored entire history. Scanning electron microscopy multiple mechanisms specimen fracture surface. In addition, further verification results, X-Ray Micro-computed tomography, internal such as delamination. From full-field strain measurement technique microscopic examination failed samples, it found distributed localized strains evidence number resin cracks de-bonded areas. SEM shows a degraded fibre/matrix interface region due action seawater.

Monitoring Moisture Damage Propagation in GFRP Composites Using Carbon Nanoparticles
Glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) composites are widely used in infrastructure applications including water structures due to their relatively high durability, high strength to weight ratio, and non-corrosiveness. Here we demonstrate the potential use of carbon nanoparticles dispersed during GFRP composite fabrication to reduce water absorption of GFRP and to enable monitoring of moisture d...
متن کاملProgressive Damage Analysis of Laminated Composites using Continuum Damage Mechanics
In this paper, progressive damage and global failure of composite laminates under quasi-static, monotonic loading are investigated using 3D continuum damage mechanics. For this purpose, a finite element program has been developed using an eight-node 2D layered element including layer-wise plate theory. Damage analysis of a single orthotropic layer under various uniform in-plane and transverse l...
متن کاملOn the Use of Acoustic Emission and Digital Image Correlation for Welded Joints Damage Characterization
A series of tests have been conducted to investigate fatigue damage characterization in corroded welded steel plates using structural health monitoring (SHM) techniques. Acoustic Emission (AE) is a non-destructive testing (NDT) technique with potential applications for locating and monitoring fatigue cracks in service. In the present work, AE is implemented to characterize damage during crack e...
متن کاملFull-Field Indentation Damage Measurement Using Digital Image Correlation
A novel approach based on full-field indentation measurements to characterize and quantify the effect of contact in thin plates is presented. The proposed method has been employed to evaluate the indentation damage generated in the presence of bending deformation, resulting from the contact between a thin plate and a rigid sphere. For this purpose, the 3D Digital Image Correlation (3D-DIC) tech...

In this study, displacement field around v-notches of a poly methyl metha crylate (PMMA) specimen with tip cracks will be analyzed using digital image correlation technique. First intensity factor in combination with in-plane rigid body translations and rotation components will be determined by linear least squares fitting of the displacement field data to the corresponding relations among stre...
