Fate of Pharmaceuticals in a Submerged Membrane Bioreactor Treating Hospital Wastewater

نویسندگان

چکیده

The fate of 12 pharmaceutical pollutants was investigated to understand their removal mechanism during hospital wastewater (HWW) treatment in submerged membrane bioreactor (SMBR). High concentrations anti-depressant (venlafaxine and desvenlafaxine), analgesic (ibuprofen hydroxy-ibuprofen), caffeine were detected the HWW entire study period. SMBR showed high >70% antibiotics (sulfamethoxazole clarithromycin), beta-blocker (acebutolol), hormone (estrone), via biodegradation. partial degradation diclofenac, venlafaxine, desvenlafaxine indicates growth promoter or agent requirement, which could facilitate metabolism co-metabolism these pharmaceuticals by microorganisms. demonstrated that major at optimized conditions biodegradation for majority examined pharmaceuticals. assessment performance low temperature 15 10°C resulted drop efficiency SMBR, affecting overall removal.

The Performance of Submerged Membrane Bioreactor Treating High Temperature Wastewater

Membrane bioreactor technology represents the most rapidly growing membrane technology in the water sector. In recent years, MBR technologies have been playing a very important role in water and wastewater treatment. MBRs are used to treat a wide range of municipal and industrial wastewaters. MBR integrates membrane filtration with biological degradation system of waste products. It is defined ...

The Study of Organic Removal Efficiency and Membrane Fouling in a Submerged Membrane Bioreactor Treating Vegetable Oil Wastewater

The characterizations of vegetable oil wastewater (VOW) are unpleasant odor, dark color, and high organic contents, including large amounts of oil and grease (O&G), chemical oxygen demand (COD), fatty acids and lipids. Therefore, VOWs should be treated efficiently to avoid the environment pollution. The aim of present study was the investigation of VOW biological treatment using membrane biorea...

Decolourisation of textile wastewater in a submerged anaerobic membrane bioreactor.

Azo dye decolourisation can be easily achieved by biological reduction under anaerobic conditions. The aim of this study was to evaluate the applicability of submerged anaerobic membrane bioreactors (SAMBRs) for the decolourisation of dyeing wastewater containing azo dyes. The reactive orange 16 was used as model of an azo dye. The results demonstrated that very high decolourisation (higher tha...

The effect of organic loading on process performance and membrane fouling in a submerged membrane bioreactor treating municipal wastewater.

The results of experiments on municipal wastewater primary effluent are presented for a pilot-scale submerged membrane bioreactor (SMBR). The SMBR pilot plant employed an ultrafiltration membrane with a nominal pore size of 0.035 microm and was operated at a constant membrane flux of 30 L/m(2)h. The mixed liquor suspended solids (MLSS) concentration was maintained at 8+/-2 g/L and steady-state ...
