Fast transport diffusion of bound water in cellulose fiber network

چکیده

Abstract A remarkable property of cellulose-based materials is that they can absorb huge amounts water (25% the dry mass) from ambient vapor, in form bound confined at a nanoscale amorphous regions cellulose structure. The control dynamics sorption and desorption major stake for reduction energy consumption material or structure damages, but absence direct observations this process still poorly known. Here we present measurements transport thanks to Nuclear Magnetic Resonance relaxometry Imaging measurements. We show transported along fibers throughout network contact. For each single diffusion coefficient value allows represent processes over whole range saturation. dependence on fiber density orientation then analyzed deduce (elementary) axis. This constitutes fundamental physical data which may be compared with molecular simulations, opens way prediction all cellulosic other hygroscopic materials.

Fast diffusion of water nanodroplets on graphene.

Diffusion across surfaces generally involves motion on a vibrating but otherwise stationary substrate. Here, using molecular dynamics, we show that a layered material such as graphene opens up a new mechanism for surface diffusion whereby adsorbates are carried by propagating ripples in a motion similar to surfing. For water nanodroplets, we demonstrate that the mechanism leads to exceedingly f...

Reassessing fast water transport through carbon nanotubes.

Pressure-driven water flow through carbon nanotubes (CNTs) with diameters ranging from 1.66 to 4.99 nm is examined using molecular dynamics simulation. The flow rate enhancement, defined as the ratio of the observed flow rate to that predicted from the no-slip Hagen-Poiseuille relation, is calculated for each CNT. The enhancement decreases with increasing CNT diameter and ranges from 433 to 47....

Enumeration of Dominant Solutions: An Application in Transport Network Design

A One-Dimensional Binary Integer Programming Problem (1DB-IPP) is concerned with selecting a subset from a set of k items in budget constraint to optimize an objective function. In this problem a dominant solution is defined as a feasible selection to which no further item could be added in budget constraint. This paper presents a simple algorithm for Enumeration of Dominant Solutions (EDS) and...

Diffusion and interfacial transport of water in Nafion.

Water absorption, membrane swelling, and self-diffusivity of water in 1100 equivalent weight Nafion were measured as functions of temperature and water activity. Free volume per water at 80 °C, determined from water uptake and volume expansion data, decreases with water content in the membrane from 12 cm(3)/mol at λ = 0.5 H(2)O/SO(3) to 1.5 cm(3)/mol at λ = 4. The change in free volume with wat...
