Farmers’ Perceptions on an Irrigation Advisory Service: Evidence from Tunisia

Decisions on irrigation water management are usually made at different levels, including farms, user associations (WUAs), and regional planning agencies. The latter generally have good access to information decision tools regarding resources management. However, these remain out of reach the final users, namely farmers. study, conducted in irrigated district Cherfech, north Tunisia, had main objective investigating farmer’s perceptions of, acceptance for, use an advisory service (IAS) be implemented by their WUA. suggested IAS provides following information: (1) reference evapotranspiration (ETo) rainfall; (2) crop requirement (CWR) most cultivated crops; (3) (IWR) crop; (4) monitoring real-time estimation IWR crops settled, using soil moisture sensors. Such services would available WUA level provided a timely manner farmers for more effective making plot level.
