Acute renal failure associated with combined gentamicin and cephalothin therapy.
Three patients with normal renal function developed acute renal failure between the ninth and twenty-seventh days of combined gentamicin and cephalothin therapy. The dose of gentamicin (4-6 mg/kg/day) was in the normal range, but that of cephalothin (180 mg/kg/day) was abnormally high. The nephropathy was of the tubular-interstitial type and the clinical picture similar to that seen in acute dr...
متن کاملFanconi syndrome associated with cidofovir therapy.
Cidofovir is a nucleoside analog with potent activity against cytomegalovirus (CMV); it is 10-fold more potent than ganciclovir in vitro (4). Its phosphorylated metabolite has an intracellular half-life greater than 48 h, and it is estimated that intracellular phosphorylated cidofovir may inhibit CMV replication for 5 to 10 days (1). The proposed maintenance treatment in patients presenting wit...
متن کاملGentamicin- and cephalothin-associated rises in blood urea nitrogen.
Standardized rates of drug-attributed rises in blood urea nitrogen were 8.6%, 2.9%, and 9.3%, respectively, in patients receiving gentamicin alone, cephalothin alone, and both drugs together. These results provide evidence against a substantial synergism between the two drugs in the production of impaired renal function.
متن کاملTicarcillin in combination with cephalothin or gentamicin as empiric antibiotic therapy in granulocytopenic cancer patients.
Ticarcillin was used in combination with either cephalothin or gentamicin as initial empiric antibiotic therapy for 127 patient trials of suspected infection in granulocytopenic cancer patients. Bacteremia was present in 20%, nonbacteremic microbiologically documented infections in 21%, clinically documented infections in 23%, and possible infections in 5%; infection was doubtful in 31%. Althou...
