Factors Influencing the Salience of Military/Veteran Identity Post Discharge: A Scoping Review

Military/veteran identity is defined as the prominence of past military service, beliefs, and norms on an individual’s post-military sense self. The salience this has been suggested to be a significant factor in how successful individuals transition civilian life. However, current body research what factors affect disparate. aim scoping review was evaluate affecting military/veteran post discharge, i.e., likelihood identifying ex-military or veteran given situation/context. A literature conducted across PsycINFO, PsycARTICLES, SAGE Journals (Journal Armed Forces & Society), Medline using keywords (Identit* OR Self-concept* “Sense self”) (Military Veteran* Soldier Army Forces) (Discharge* Reintegration Transition*). An evaluation results led 20 articles. Thirteen were extracted form Military/Veteran Identity Salience (MIS) model. Professionals are recommended explore these 13 guides, rather than assuming that their prominent for individual. Further, additional quantitative reliable/valid wider demographic, such other NATO countries aside from US/UK.
