Abstract: Introduction: After the residency in Internal Medicine, most graduates choose to undergo a new selection process obtain second specialty. The phenomenon of early specialization is encouraged as undergraduate course. Despite this, demand for general practitioners growing. Objective: To investigate factors that lead newly graduated clinician undertake residency. Method: This cross-sectional study analyzes responses Medicine from state Pernambuco 2020, through questionnaire available online by Google Forms, containing questions about social aspects, medical course, Medical Residency and intentions future career. Results: There were 81 104 possible participants (77.88%). Most these female (66.67%), public universities (69.14%) had already started shortly after graduation (50.62%).
