Factors associated with patient preference of optical low vision devices in North West Nigeria.

Purpose: The study was conducted to identify factors associated with patients’ preferences optical low vision devices in North West Nigeria.
 Methods: A mixed method approach adopted for this study. sample consisted of 219 patients seen over a 5-year period (2010-2015) who received at the Low Vision Clinic Health and Development Support Programme (HANDS), Jigawa State, Nigeria. In-depth interviews 9 optometrists practicing Western Nigeria were also conducted. Data summarized presented tables figures. Chi square test statistics used association between categorical variables @ 95% confidence interval.
 Results: mean age records reviewed 45.28 20.22 162 (74%) males. Age occupation had statistically significant use magnifiers (χ2=15.201,P=0.004 χ2=29.261, P=0.001, respectively). Patients 30 59 years preferred spectacle while younger (<30 years) stand magnifiers. found group (χ2=12.127, P=0.002), students (χ2=13.517, P= 0.004) telescope use. Results from key informant interview showed that age, cosmetic appeal ease considered major patient preference devices.
 Conclusion: only demographic significantly devices. Information would be benefit practitioners stocking cost effective management patients.
