Factors associated with excess body weight in university students in times of COVID-19

Introduction: Excess body weight affects the quality of life millions young people around world. Objective: To determine factors associated with prevalence overweight and obesity in university students during COVID-19, from October to December 2020. Methods: Analytical, cross-sectional research non-experimental design. There was a population 325 professional career medical technology sample 169 both sexes. Body mass index waist circumference diameter were used calculate obesity. The determined by means survey validated expert judgment. Results: 49.1% or obese, females being most affected. Of obese students, 59.0% at high risk abdominal According eating habits, 97.6% ate three more meals per day, 81.9% consumed foods rich carbohydrates 54.2% junk food 1 -2 times week. In relation sedentary lifestyle, 71.0% remained seated between 5 8 hours 67.4% slept less than 7 day 57.8% did not perform any physical activity. Conclusions: intake carbohydrate content, food, spent sleeping sitting daily are among COVID-19 period.
