Extreme Ultraviolet Emission from Neutron Stars
We summarize the detections of extreme ultraviolet (EUV) emission from neutron stars. Three rm detections have been made of spin-powered pulsars: the aged millisecond pulsar PSR J0437?4715, the middle-aged X-ray pulsar Geminga, and the radio pulsar PSR B0656+14. These observations allow us to evaluate both power-law and thermal-law emission models as the source of the EUV ux. For the case of PS...
متن کاملThermal emission from low-field neutron stars
We present a new grid of LTE model atmospheres for weakly magnetic (B <∼ 10 10 G) neutron stars, using opacity and equation of state data from the OPAL project and employing a fully frequency and angle dependent radiation transfer. We discuss the differences to earlier models, including a comparison with a detailed NLTE calculation. As a first application of the new synthetic spectra, we re-ana...

متن کاملX-Ray and Extreme Ultraviolet Emission from Comets
The discovery of high energy X-ray emission in 1996 from C/1996 B2 (Hyakutake) has created a surprising new class of X-ray emitting objects. The original discovery (Lisse et al., 1996) and subsequent detection of X-rays from 17 other comets (Table 1) have shown that the very soft (E < 1 keV) emission is due to an interaction between the solar wind and the comet’s atmosphere, and that X-ray emis...
متن کاملX-ray emission from neutron stars in dark clusters
Two classes of neutron stars may exist in the galactic halo: neutron stars originating in the disk with high velocities and neutron stars originating in globular clusters (via Type II supernovae and/or accretion induced collapse). Moreover, the halo dark matter is likely in the form of dark clusters composed of MACHOs and cold molecular clouds. Here we propose a model in which neutron stars cros...
