Extracorporeal Oxygenation Techniques in Adult Critical Airway Obstruction: A Review
نویسندگان
چکیده
Extracorporeal life support has been increasingly utilized in different clinical settings to manage either critical respiratory or heart failure. Complex airway surgery with significant even total perioperative obstruction represents an indication for this technique prevent/overcome a period of severe hypoxaemia, hypoventilation, and/or apnea. This review summarizes the current published scientific evidence on utility extracorporeal associated describes available methods, their indications, and possible limitations. membrane oxygenation using veno-arterial veno-venous mode is most commonly employed such scenarios caused by endoluminal, external, combined trachea main bronchi.

Argatroban in adult extracorporeal membrane oxygenation.
This case report addresses the use of Argatroban, an anticoagulant and thrombin inhibitor for treatment of thrombocytopenia in an adult patient on extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). After 5 days on ECMO, the patient showed signs of heparin-induced thrombocytopenia (HIT) with a platelet count of 20K. Argatroban was initiated to decrease progression of HIT and continue treatment with ECM...

The H1N1 flu pandemic led to a wider use of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), proving its power in hypoxemic emergencies. The results obtained during this pandemic, more than any randomized trial, led to the worldwide acceptance of the use of membrane lungs. Moreover, as centers that applied this technique as rescue therapy for refractory hypoxemia recognized its strength and limited ...

UNLABELLED Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) is an advanced form of organ support indicated in selected cases of severe cardiovascular and respiratory failure. Echocardiography is an invaluable diagnostic and monitoring tool in all aspects of ECMO support. The unique nature of ECMO, and its distinct effects upon cardio-respiratory physiology, requires the echocardiographer to have a so...
متن کاملYear in Review 2015: Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation.
Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) is a modified form of cardiopulmonary bypass. Although early trials were plagued by severe bleeding and high rates of death, subsequent experience with neonates found good survival, and ECMO became an important tool in the care of critically ill infants with respiratory failure. Since the 1980s, expansion to other groups (children, patients with cardia...
