Exponentially Accelerated Approach to Stationarity in Markovian Open Quantum Systems through the Mpemba Effect

چکیده

Ergodicity-breaking and slow relaxation are intriguing aspects of nonequilibrium dynamics both in classical quantum settings. These phenomena typically associated with phase transitions, e.g. the emergence metastable regimes near a first-order transition or scaling vicinity critical points. Despite being fundamental interest divergent time scales hindrance when trying to explore steady-state properties. Here we show that Markovian open systems can be accelerated exponentially by devising an optimal unitary transformation is applied system immediately before actual dynamics. This initial "rotation" engineered such way state becomes orthogonal slowest decaying dynamical mode. We illustrate our idea -- which inspired so-called Mpemba effect, i.e., water freezing faster initially heated up showing how achieve exponential speed-up convergence stationarity Dicke models, avoid all-to-all interacting spin system.

Perturbative approach to Markovian open quantum systems

The exact treatment of Markovian open quantum systems, when based on numerical diagonalization of the Liouville super-operator or averaging over quantum trajectories, is severely limited by Hilbert space size. Perturbation theory, standard in the investigation of closed quantum systems, has remained much less developed for open quantum systems where a direct application to the Lindblad master e...

Nonequilibrium thermodynamics of the Markovian Mpemba effect and its inverse.

Under certain conditions, it takes a shorter time to cool a hot system than to cool the same system initiated at a lower temperature. This phenomenon-the "Mpemba effect"-was first observed in water and has recently been reported in other systems. Whereas several detail-dependent explanations were suggested for some of these observations, no common underlying mechanism is known. Using the theore...

Non-markovian Dynamics of Open Quantum Systems

Title of dissertation: NON-MARKOVIAN DYNAMICS OF OPEN QUANTUM SYSTEMS Chris H. Fleming, Doctor of Philosophy, 2011 Dissertation directed by: Professor Bei-Lok Hu Department of Physics An open quantum system is a quantum system that interacts with some environment whose degrees of freedom have been coarse grained away. This model describes non-equilibrium processes more general than scattering-m...

Quantum Zeno effect for exponentially decaying systems.

The quantum Zeno effect--suppression of decay by frequent measurements--was believed to occur only when the response of the detector is so quick that the initial tiny deviation from the exponential decay law is detectable. However, we show that it can occur even for exactly exponentially decaying systems, for which this condition is never satisfied, by considering a realistic case where the det...

Linear quantum state diffusion for non-Markovian open quantum systems

We demonstrate the relevance of complex Gaussian stochastic processes to the stochastic state vector description of non-Markovian open quantum systems. These processes express the general Feynman-Vernon path integral propagator for open quantum systems as the classical ensemble average over stochastic pure state propagators in a natural way. They are the coloured generalization of complex Wiene...
