Exploring the potential for ‘Gene Conservation Units’ to conserve genetic diversity in wild populations

چکیده
1. Genetic diversity is important for species persistence and Gene Conservation Units (GCUs) have been implemented forest trees to protect genetic evolutionary processes in situ. The Convention on Biological Diversity stipulates the protection of as an Aichi target, so we explore potential GCUs be more widely. 2. Our global systematic review showed that are currently primarily plant economic importance (109/158 studied), but a questionnaire sent land managers conservationists (60 U.K. participants) revealed strong support fully integrating information into conservation management (90% agree), creating other animal taxa. 3. Using four case studies which vary threat population dynamics (two insect species, fungus plant), highlight GCU implementation criteria need flexible account variation effective breeding size geographic extent target species. wider uptake would ensure threatened protected aid adaptation changing environments.

Reconsideration for conservation units of wild Primula sieboldii in Japan based on adaptive diversity and molecular genetic diversity.
Primula sieboldii E. Morren is a perennial clonal herb that is widely distributed in Japan, but in danger of extinction in the wild. In a previous study, we revealed the genetic diversity of the species using chloroplast and nuclear DNA and used this information to define conservation units. However, we lacked information on adaptive genetic diversity, which is important for long-term survival ...

in current study, 63 samples of bat populations collected from differ regions were used for evaluating the geographic variations. twenty cranial and dental characters for traditional morphometric and landmarks method on the ventral, dorsal skull and mandible for geometry morphometric studies were used. statistical analyses of traditional morphometric and geometry morphometric data indicated low...
A unified approach to characterize and conserve adaptive and neutral genetic diversity in subdivided populations.
As extinction of local domestic breeds and of isolated subpopulations of wild species continues, and the resources available for conservation programs are limited, prioritizing subpopulations for conservation is of high importance to halt the erosion of genetic diversity observed in endangered species. Current approaches usually only take neutral genetic diversity into account. However, adaptat...
متن کاملExhaustive search for conservation networks of populations representing genetic diversity.
Conservation strategies routinely use optimization methods to identify the smallest number of units required to represent a set of features that need to be conserved, including biomes, species, and populations. In this study, we provide R scripts to facilitate exhaustive search for solutions that represent all of the alleles in networks with the smallest possible number of populations. The scri...
