Exploring the Cumulative Selectivity of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons in Phytoplankton, Water, and Sediment in Typical Urban Water Bodies

To understand the interactions among eutrophication, algal bloom, and POPs (persistent organic pollutants) in freshwater ecosystems, cumulative selectivity of PAHs (polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons) phytoplankton, water, sediment with different eutrophication level waters were identified a typical plain river network region located Nanjing City. Results showed that total 33 species belonging to 27 genera 4 phyla 15 sites urban water bodies, most them belonged type Cyanobacteria–Bacillariophyta. The these rivers lakes led sample site specificity composition abundance. planktonic algae mainly accumulated 2-ring 3-ring PAHs, enriched high-ring PAHs. However, enrichment capacity on was much higher than sediment. Cyanophyta some Bacillariophyta Chlorophyta mesotrophic (?m) meso-eutrophic bodies (ß?m) preferentially lower-ring (naphthalene, acenaphthylene, phenanthrene). Some other specific species, such as Euglenophyta, Bacillariophyta, moderate eutrophic had strong capacities enrich subsuming benzo[a]anthracene, chrysene, anthracene. affected by shaping phytoplankton composition, which may be related quality, characteristics, cell walls.
