Exploring Disciplinary Variation in Pakistani Academic Writing: A Corpus-Based Research on Doctoral Dissertations

It was a corpus-based research and aimed to explore disciplinary variations (in the use of phrasal features) in academic writing (AW) produced by L2 writers English across disciplines. Corpus this (comprising 80 dissertations written Pakistani doctoral level candidates from two disciplines i.e. Arts Humanities Life Sciences) analyzed through AntConc after tagging POS MAT Taggers. The results revealed AW (across disciplines) containing nouns more than any other feature. In addition, also order highest lowest frequencies be similar both inter-, intra-disciplines. meant that contained features. However, due frequent same features (i.e. nouns) all eight sub-disciplines Sciences, variation (except some inter- intra-disciplinary said not significantly observed AW. On basis these results, it concluded did reflect significant (a characteristic feature L1 AW)
