Exploding head syndrome (a.k.a. episodic cranial sensory shock) responds to single?pulse transcranial magnetic stimulation

چکیده
We present the case of a patient with sleep disturbance attributed to exploding head syndrome, recently redefined as episodic cranial sensory shock. The patient, who suffered concomitant migraine, was treated for headache prevention daily single-pulse transcranial magnetic stimulation (sTMS). Following treatment, he reported significant reduction in episodes albeit not his migraine. Neurologists could consider sTMS management patients troubled by shock, it is safe and noninvasive treatment that might provide benefit this benign but occasionally bothersome parasomnia.

We write with an illustrative case as a clinical entrée to set the bibliographic record straight. For background, EHS is a paroxysmal sensory parasomnia not associated with significan...

Very occasionally, she would have an associated flash of light. Frequently, a second episode of the loud no...
متن کاملHead-to-Head Comparison of Transcranial Random Noise Stimulation, Transcranial AC Stimulation, and Transcranial DC Stimulation for Tinnitus
Tinnitus is the perception of a sound in the absence of an external sound stimulus. This phantom sound has been related to plastic changes and hyperactivity in the auditory cortex. Different neuromodulation techniques such as transcranial magnetic stimulation and transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) have been used in an attempt to modify local and distant neuroplasticity as to reduce ...

Fifty patients suffering from the "exploding head syndrome" are described. This hitherto unreported syndrome is characterised by a sense of an explosive noise in the head usually in the twilight stage of sleep. The associated symptoms are varied, but the benign nature of the condition is emphasised and neither extensive investigation nor treatment are indicated.
