Explaining willingness to pay taxes: The role of income, education, ideology

While the drivers of preferences about tax progressivity and redistribution are well identified, study willingness to pay taxes remains underdeveloped. This article uses 2016 ISSP on Role Government 2018 OECD Risks that Matter surveys identify which groups voters more likely be willing taxes. It shows ideology mediates correlations between education or income pay. Among left, tend have a positive association with taxes, whereas both variables negatively associated among right. Thus, core constituencies left-wing parties composed socio-cultural professionals production service workers different policy preferences.
