Experimental study on morphological characteristics of landslide dams in different shaped valleys

چکیده

Landslide dams pose enormous risks to infrastructures and communities in mountainous areas near rivers, with potential dam breaches causing catastrophic secondary hazards. The morphology of a landslide dam, essential its stability, is highly influenced by formation conditions, including the type, material composition, valley shape. However, correlation between these factors poorly understood. A series laboratory tests were conducted investigate damming process deposition across three different granular materials, two sliding widths, shapes. Detailed topography surveys deposits using 3D laser scanner. experimental results show that width path shape have significant effect on dam. under narrow are more concentrated higher steeper upstream downstream slopes. cross-valley profiles dependent for well-graded gravel sand (Soil I, GW) poorly-graded II, SP) but linear III, SP). crest surface frontal angle soil III larger than soils containing (i.e., Soils I II). length increases as changes from rectangular trapezoidal then triangular, shows opposite trends widths gradation becomes finer. height decreases Soil II III. In addition, particles gravels) tend accumulate side whereas finer sand) bottom source side.

Morphological analysis of glaciated valleys in the Zardkuh Mountains, Iran

The morphology of glacial valley can be described in terms of power law or quadratic equations fitted to valley cross-profiles. These two models are used to study the cross-profiles of 86 valley cross-profiles in the Zardkuh Mountain in order to understand the evolutional patterns of valleys. Assessment of using the power law function indicates that b values for both valley sides range from 1.0...

Characteristics and classification of landslide dams associated with the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake

Background: Strong earthquakes are among the prime triggering factors of landslides, which may block rivers, forming landslide dams. Some of these dams may pose serious threats to people and property due to upstream inundation and downstream dam-breach flooding. Evaluating the stability and potential hazard of landslide dams is significant for the mitigation measures, but remains challenging. T...

focus on communication in iranian high school language classes: a study of the role of teaching materials in changing the focus onto communication in language classes
