Experimental Study of Secondary Flow in Narrow and Sharp Open-Channel Bends

چکیده
Secondary flow is a prominent feature of channel bends; it alters the streamwise velocity and bed shear stress distributions. Experiments were conducted to investigate complex pattern secondary in narrow sharp open-channel bend underlying mechanism generation multiple circulation cells. Compared with moderate bends, bends are characteristic cells from 90° section. In addition curvature-induced cell (S1) turbulence-induced counter-rotation (C1) near outer bank, another (S2) was observed inner bank attributed separation. A term-by-term analysis vorticity equations indicates that centrifugal term favours S1 C1 while opposing S2. The turbulence-related accounts for formation advective transport redistributes maintains existence dependence structure on Reynolds number aspect ratio also explored. With an increase 23000 37000, both strength size reduced by 50%, whereas S2 increases 20%, its slightly decreases. decrease 3.3 2, strengths S1, S2, doubled, sizes 90% respectively.

[1] The paper investigates the influence of relative bend curvature on secondary flow, energy losses, and turbulence in sharp open-channel bends. These processes are important in natural streams with respect to sediment transport, the bathymetry and planimetry, mixing and spreading of pollutants, heat, oxygen, nutrients and biological species, and the conveyance capacity. Laboratory experiments...
متن کاملLaminar Flow Analysis in the Channel Bends
In this paper the laminar flow in the rectangular channel bends is simulated using numerical techniques. The turning angle of the channel bend and the area ratio of the channel cross-section are two important parameters to be examined. For flow simulation, the body fitted 3-D continuity and momentum equations are used and a body fitted general purpose code is developed. The existing results of ...

متن کاملExperimental study of secondary flow in a magnetohydrodynamic channel
The Hall effect in the magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) channel flow of a plasma leads to the presence of transverse Lorentz forces. The non-uniform distribution of these body forces may cause secondary flows to develop; these can exert a significant influence on the plasma momentum, thermal and electrical behaviour. The effect is predicted to be large for envisioned large-scale MHD devices. An experi...

the purpose of this paper is to present a 2d depth-averaged model for simulating and examining unsteady flow patterns in open channel bends. in particular, this paper proposes a 2d depth-averaged model that takes into account the influence of the secondary flow phenomenon through calculation of the dispersion stresses. the dispersion terms which arose from the integration of the product of the ...
