Experimental investigation for the local scour around V-shaped spur-dikes

Spur-dikes are efficient hydraulic structures that made for numerous purposes. They have one end on the stream bank and another extending into current. As a result of existing spur-dikes in course, local scour phenomena usually occur around them, leading to several predicaments which been great concern engineers. For present work, laboratory experiments were carried out measure depths located at different distances V-shaped one. The conducted using physical models installed non-curved flume with bed uniform cohesion-less sediment medium particle size (d50 = 0.7 mm). All operated under subcritical flow clear-water conditions. investigations include three (1, 2 3) between them 1.5 spur-dike length) as two countermeasures minimize depths. results showed an increasing number would decrease within limit study. experimental data used create new formula R2 0.954 reflects good agreement experimentally observed results.
