Experimental Evaluation of Glulam Made from Portuguese Eucalyptus

Engineered wood products (EWPs) have evolved over time to become a popular and sustainable alternative traditional lumber by offering design flexibility, increased strength, improved quality control. This work analyzes the potential of Portuguese eucalyptus (Eucalyptus globulus) produce glued-laminated timber (glulam) for structural applications. Currently, this hardwood is used less noble applications in Portugal’s construction industry. To promote use species construction, an experimental campaign was conducted characterize its compression parallel grain bending strength. The results demonstrated that presents strength 73 N/mm2 151 with global value elastic modulus equal 24,180 N/mm2. Based on those values obtained from glulam produced eucalyptus, one can conclude test presented here are higher than ones declared current made softwoods; thus, additional studies encouraged.
