Experimental and Numerical Assessments of Slab-Column Connections Strengthened Using Bonded Hemp Fiber Fabric Sheets

Abstract The replacement of synthetic fibers with natural in concrete has been recently investigated to counter the growing environmental and sustainable issues. Hemp are environmentally friendly used manufacturing composite materials. This paper reports on experimental assessment using hemp fiber reinforced polymer (HFRP) fabric sheets as an alternative carbon (CFRP) strengthen interior slab-column connections. Small-scale connections were loaded centrally through column stub up failure. main test variables slab thickness, HFRP sheet width, number layers, type strengthening material (HFRP or CFRP sheets), sheet's location relative column’s face. Assessment was based a comparison load capacity, mode failure, load–displacement history, cracking patterns. results demonstrated that led improvement structural behavior depending width configuration for sheets. Although lower compared sheets, however, same could be reached by if they applied larger different configurations. A finite-element model developed ABAQUS software predict simulated specimens. numerical findings showed models predicted connection good agreement results.
