EXAMINING RELIGIOUS MODERATION OF THE AL-JAM'IYATUL WASHLIYAH FATWA COUNCIL

Al Jam’iyatul Washliyah was founded in 1930 Medan North Sumatera, a plural region religion-wise. Many consider maintaining moderate understanding of Islam. Its Fatwa Council produced considerable number fatwas recent years, including that test Washliyah’s position on difficult issues, issues terrorism, non-Muslims, Islamic sects, women leadership, and LGBTs. By reviewing the organizational documents using content analysis method, results showed not all issued by organization reflected its claim. Regarding jihad fatwa certainly against terror achieving religious goals. Likewise, they Shi’ah as orthodox Sunni, although this decision is contentious inside since many ulama within opposed it. However, respect to pluralism sects hints conservative stance echoed from their interreligious marriage, non-Muslim leader, Ahmadiyah This shows such remain for Indonesian Muslims moderatism increasingly erodes times.
