Examining Feelings of Anxiety Experienced by Secondary Students in L2 Evaluative Situations

چکیده

The main purpose of this study is to examine the potential impact self-reported test anxiety on L2 academic achievement. sample consisted eighty-five students from ten different state secondary schools in. Majorca. Data were collected using Spanish version Cognitive Test Anxiety Scale (CTAS). results show that participants suffer moderate high levels, regardless actual English proficiency. findings reveal a significant effect participants’ proficiency both general anxiety, and directly related high-stakes (the University Entrance Examination, SUEE), suggesting self-perception stronger predictor than grades. Additionally, relationship between gender was found, which indicates female tend perceive certain exam situations as more personally threatening males. In contrast, school setting (urban versus suburban) not anxiety.
