چکیده
This study describes the first potential multi-species shark nursery area in Atlantic Africa (Sal Rei Bay – SRB, Boa Vista Island, Cabo Verde). From August 2016 to September 2019, 6162 neonates and juveniles of 5 different species were observed SRB using beach gillnet-based bycatch surveys, namely milk ( Rhizoprionodon acutus ; n= 4908), scalloped hammerhead Sphyrna lewini 1035), blacktip Carcharhinus limbatus n=115), weasel Paragaleus pectoralis 93) nurse Ginglymostoma cirratum 12) sharks. Except for sharks, significant seasonal variations relative abundance observed, with higher levels being recorded during summer autumn. These findings, together local knowledge (interviews fishermen), denote consistent use by juvenile sharks its preference other areas region. Ensuring protection conservation is especially relevant as, according IUCN, all identified are threatened extinction over near-future particular, hammerheads (critically endangered) (endangered). The effective will not only support populations, but also charismatic fauna (e.g., loggerhead turtles) broader benthic pelagic ecosystems.

In order to study the matrilineal genetic composition in Cabo Verde (Republic of Cape Verde), an archipelago that used to serve as a Portuguese entrepôt of the Atlantic slave trade, we have analysed a total of 292 mtDNAs sampled from the seven inhabited islands for the hypervariable segment I (HVS-I) and some characteristic RFLPs of the coding regions. The different settlement history of the no...

In 2009, Cabo Verde diagnosed the first dengue cases, with 21,137 cases reported and Aedes aegypti was identified as the vector. Since the outbreak, chemical insecticides and source reduction were used to control the mosquito population. This study aimed to assess the susceptibility of A. aegypti populations from Santiago, Cabo Verde to insecticides and identify the mechanisms of resistance. Sa...
