Evidence for strong progenitor age dependence of type Ia supernova luminosity standardization process

چکیده
Supernova (SN) cosmology is based on the assumption that width-luminosity relation (WLR) and color-luminosity (CLR) in type Ia SN luminosity standardization would not show {absolute magnitude differences} with progenitor age. Unlike this expectation, recent age datings of stellar populations host galaxies have shown significant correlations between Hubble residual (HR). Here we correlation originates from a strong dependence zero-points WLR CLR, sense SNe younger progenitors are fainter each at given light-curve parameters $x_1$ $c$. This $4.6\sigma$ result reminiscent Baade's discovery zero-point variation Cepheid period-luminosity age, and, as such, causes serious systematic bias redshift cosmology. Other properties substantially smaller insignificant offsets CLR for same dataset. We illustrate differences high-$z$ low-$z$ HR after standardization, fully comparable to those correspondingly young old intermediate redshift, indicating observed dimming may well be an artifact over-correction standardization. When properly taken into account, there little evidence left accelerating universe, discordance other probes, urging follow-up investigations larger samples different bins.

The Type Ia Supernova Width-luminosity Relation
Observations of type Ia supernovæ at high redshifts have become an important tool for studying the geometry of the universe. The relation between the duration of the peak phase of a type Ia supernova’s lightcurve and its luminosity (broader is brighter) forms the cornerstone of this measurement, yet it is a purely empirical relation. In this paper we show that the relation is a natural conseque...
متن کاملKPD 1930 + 2752 – a candidate Type Ia supernova progenitor
We present spectra of the pulsating sdB star KPD 1930+2752 which confirm that this star is a binary. The radial velocities measured from the Hα and HeI 6678Å spectral lines vary sinusoidally with the same period (2 h 17 m) as the ellipsoidal variability seen byBilì eres et al. (2000). The amplitude of the orbital motion (349.3±2.7 km s −1) combined with the canonical mass for sdB stars (0.5M ⊙)...
متن کاملType-Ia Supernova Rates and the Progenitor Problem: A Review
The identity of the progenitor systems of type-Ia supernovae (SNe Ia) is a major unsolved problem in astrophysics. SN Ia rates are providing some striking clues. We review the basics of SN rate measurement, preach about some sins of SN rate measurement and analysis, and illustrate one of these sins with an analogy about Martian scientists. We review the recent progress in measuring SN Ia rates ...
متن کاملLimits on the X-ray and optical luminosity of the progenitor of the type Ia supernova SN2007sr
We present HST/WFPC2, GALEX and Chandra observations of the position of the type Ia supernova SN2007sr in the Antennae galaxies, taken before the explosion. No source is found in any of the observations, allowing us to put interesting constraints on the progenitor luminosity. In total there is about 450 kilosecond of Chandra data, spread over 7 different observations. Limiting magnitudes of FUV...
متن کاملThe Type Ia Supernova
We present the rst measurement of the rate of Type Ia super-novae at high redshift. The result is derived using a large subset of data from the Supernova Cosmology Project as described in more detail at this meeting by Perlmutter et al. (1996). We present our methods for estimating the numbers of galaxies and the number of solar luminosities to which the survey is sensitive, the supernova detec...
