Evidence for Groundwater Salinity Origin Based on Hydrogeochemical and Isotopic (2H, 18O, 37Cl, 3H, 13C, 14C) Approaches: Sousse, Eastern Tunisia

چکیده

The key processes responsible for the rise in groundwater salinization Mio–Pliocene aquifer system of Sousse (Tunisia, eastern coastline) were identified through a multidisciplinary approach based on use geochemical, stable (2H, 13C, 18O and 37Cl) radioactive (3H 14C) isotope methods. In study region, mineralization groundwaters is related to water–rock interaction ascribed dissolution minerals evaporite rocks, as well saltwater intrusion. Both explain development which Cl Na dominantly determine quality deterioration state. isotopic geochemical signatures studied are clearly explained by (i) occurrence saline basins (sebkhas adjacent region), (ii) type rocks found below ground surface, (iii) cation exchange between clays groundwaters.

Origin of groundwater salinity and hydrogeochemical processes in the confined Quaternary aquifer of the Pearl River Delta, China

The Pearl River Delta (PRD), located in the coastal area of South China, contains a large confined Quaternary aquifer. This aquifer has been identified to have high concentrations of total dissolved solids–ranging from 1 g/l in the inland area to 26.8 g/l near the southeast shoreline. This work aims to investigate the origin of groundwater salinity and the major hydrogeochemical processes contr...

ORIGIN OF CHOGHART IRON OXIDE DEPOSIT, BAFQ MINING DISTRICT, CENTRAL IRAN: NEW ISOTOPIC AND GEOCHEMICAL EVIDENCE

The origin of the Proterozoic Choghart iron oxide deposit in the Bafq mining district of Central Iran has been the subject of a long-standing dispute. Some authors believe that it was formed from magma, while others suggest metasomatic replacement of preexisting rocks. The present study on the basis of new oxygen isotope, REE and geochemical data concludes that neither of these two hypotheses c...

Carbon isotopic (13C and 14C) composition of synthetic estrogens and progestogens.

RATIONALE Steroids are potent hormones that are found in many environments. Yet, contributions from synthetic and endogenous sources are largely uncharacterized. The goal of this study was to evaluate whether carbon isotopes could be used to distinguish between synthetic and endogenous steroids in wastewater and other environmental matrices. METHODS Estrogens and progestogens were isolated fr...

Groundwater Mixing Process Identification in Deep Mines Based on Hydrogeochemical Property Analysis

Karst collapse columns, as a potential water passageway for mine water inrush, are always considered a critical problem for the development of deep mining techniques. This study aims to identify the mixing process of groundwater deriving two different limestone karst-fissure aquifer systems. Based on analysis of mining groundwater hydrogeochemical properties, hydraulic connection between the ka...

Analysis of 14C and 13C in teeth provides precise birth dating and clues to geographical origin.

The identification of human bodies in situations when there are no clues as to the person's identity from circumstantial data, poses a difficult problem to the investigators. The determination of age and sex of the body can be crucial in order to limit the search to individuals that are a possible match. We analyzed the proportion of bomb pulse derived carbon-14 ((14)C) incorporated in the enam...
