Evidence for an Extreme Cooling Event Prior to the Laschamp Geomagnetic Excursion in Eifel Maar Sediments

چکیده

We present a timeseries of flood and slumping phases in central Europe for the past 65,000 years from event layers sediment cores infilled Eifel maar basins (Germany). Palynological, petrographic organic carbon (chlorins) records are used to understand precise timing these events. Periods increased activity seem coincide with Heinrich stadials marine records, which associated cold more arid climate conditions, indicating vegetation response within maars’ catchment areas. This multi-proxy correlation reveals prominent slumps at different sites during Greenland Stadial (GS) 12. The stratigraphy is based on Auel we thus call this Cold Event (ACE). Frozen fractured packages slump suggest deep frost or permafrost conditions region stadial. results agree well archives archeological across that report severely supports assumption GS12 was indeed one coldest periods last glacial cycle rather than stadials. Based our age model, ACE occurred 43,500 yr b2k (years before year 2000), coincides initial weakening Earth’s magnetic field strength prior Laschamp geomagnetic excursion.

Dynamics of the Laschamp geomagnetic excursion from Black Sea sediments

Investigated sediment cores from the southeastern Black Sea provide a high-resolution record from mid latitudes of the Laschamp geomagnetic polarity excursion. Age constraints are provided by 16 AMS C ages, identification of the Campanian Ignimbrite tephra (39.2870.11 ka), and by detailed tuning of sedimentologic parameters of the Black Sea sediments to the oxygen isotope record from the Greenl...

The Laschamp geomagnetic excursion featured in nitrate record from EPICA-Dome C ice core

Here we present the first direct comparison of cosmogenic (10)Be and chemical species in the period of 38-45.5 kyr BP spanning the Laschamp geomagnetic excursion from the EPICA-Dome C ice core. A principal component analysis (PCA) allowed to group different components as a function of the main sources, transport and deposition processes affecting the atmospheric aerosol at Dome C. Moreover, a w...

Paleointensity of the earth's magnetic field during the Laschamp excursion and its geomagnetic implications

The reversed paleomagnetic direction of the Laschamp and Olby flows represents a specific feature of the geomagnetic field. This is supported by paleomagnetic evidence, showing that the same anomalous direction was recorded at several distinct sites, including scoria of the Laschamp volcano. To examine this anomalous geomagnetic fluctuation; we studied the paleointensity of the Laschamp and Olb...

Laschamp Excursion at Mono Lake?

The Laschamp Geomagnetic Excursion (ca. 41 ka) and a related increase of cosmogenic nuclides provides a global tie point among sedimentary and ice core records. In the Wilson Creek Formation, Mono Lake, California, the Laschamp Excursion has not been recognized although the so-called Mono Lake excursion was found in the section with an estimated age of about 28 14C ka. However, our reevaluation...
