Evidence-Based Examples of Nurses’ Prevention of Peripheral Venous Catheter-Related Complications

Aim: This study was carried out to determine the nurses’ use of evidence-based applications for prevention complications related peripheral venous catheter (PVC) placement. Method: The conducted as a descriptive between March -June 2016 at medical, and surgical wards, intensive care units state hospital in western part Turkey. Hundred thirty nurses who agreed participate constituted sample size study. Data were collected using forms prepared accordance with literature data. Results: has shown that 75.7% participated emphasized any form not used evaluation PVC their clinics. According responses questions about application PVC; 55.2% realized polyurethane material reduce risk complication, upper extremity veins preferred by 87% adults, 41.7% participants washed hands soap water before In addition, 64.3% stated aseptic technique should always be during placement, while 70% alcohol 44.3% them provide cleaning / asepsis entry site. Half (50%) dressing change on site prevent pollution looseness so on. Besides 41.3% PVCs changed routinely 49-71 hours. Conclusion: Evidence-based associated implemented according research results.
