Evaluation of the potential of nanofluids containing different Ag nanoparticle size distributions for enhanced solar energy conversion in hybrid photovoltaic-thermal (PVT) applications

Abstract Hybridising photovoltaic and photothermal technologies into a single system that can simultaneously deliver heat power represents one of the leading strategies for generating clean energy at more affordable prices. In hybrid photovoltaic-thermal (PVT) system, capability to modulate thermal electrical output is significantly influenced by spectral properties transfer fluid utilised. this study, we report on first experimental evaluations multimodal silver nanofluid containing various particle shapes sizes selectively solar PVT applications. The diverse set led up 50.4% enhancement in absorbed over 300 nm—550 nm region, where silicon known exhibit poor conversion performances. This improved substantially absorption energy, with an additional 18–129 W m −2 being generated system. Along advancements made decrease 4.7–36.6 element was noted. Thus, every ∼ 11 increase achieved through addition nanoparticles, reduction 3 ability generate electricity sustained PVT. Despite trade-offs involved under conditions nanofluid, cumulatively harvested 405 which amounts total efficiency 45%. Furthermore, economics merging two systems found reach 77% certain European conditions.
