Evaluation of specific capacity of poultry litter in heavy metal sorption

Abstract The article highlights sorptive properties of poultry litter. Preliminary studies on sorption Cd 2+ , Cu Ni Pb Zn ions at the concentration range 1–1000 mg L -1 were carried out. Langmuir and Freundlich models used to determine potential capacities Sorption parameter outcome from isotherms exhibited following order: > Ni. During batch adsorption experiment, a decrease absorbance solutions in UV-Vis was observed, proportional increase metals solutions. This phenomenon associated with precipitation complexes fulvic/humic-like compounds uric acid metals. dissolved organic carbon (DOC) confirmed previous assumptions. FT-IR spectroscopy showed significant role sorption. measurements allowed determining type active sites involved sorption, especially carboxylic groups. findings should be helpful soil reclamation practices
