EVALUATION OF RAINFED AGRICULTURE MANAGEMENT PRACTICES AS AN APPROACH FOR SUSTAINABILITY IN NORTHWESTERN COAST (NWC), EGYPT

Sustainable development can be possible in rainfed agriculture by integrated approach of soil management measures. Soil quality the form a quantitative index is used as an indicator environmental and sustainability. Twelve farms selected to achieve targets present investigation (six under traditional system six with supplemental irrigation) at Northwestern Coastal Zone (NWCZ). These varied land use practices concerning fertilization practices, tillage system, crop type cultivated period. This study some indicators vis-à -vis physicochemical properties studied areas NWCZ. The rating (SQI) relative (RSQI) values this were higher towards supplement irrigation than farms. In addition, most change (∆RSQI) moderately increase (class II) these management. results cumulative CRI showed negative correlation significant relationship RSQI (R2=0.82, p<0.05). impacts on productivity, between yield (Ry %) was positive (R2=0.78, Also, Ry% (R2=0.81, Moreover, highly class I, sustainability, low changes observed good (NPK+organic manure). So, recommended expansion add suitable dose NPK application manure along scientific lines encourage yields that achieved sustainable basis, but it need long time reach I status.
