Evaluation of Hemolysis Activity of Zerumbone on RBCs and Brine Shrimp Toxicity

Zerumbone is a well-known compound having anti-cancer, anti-ulcer, anti-inflammatory and anti-hyperglycemic effects. During its use for the disease treatment, membrane of erythrocyte can be affected by consumption this bioactive compound. The current study was first report investigation hemolytic activities on human erythrocytes cytotoxic profile zerumbone. toxicity zerumbone determined in vitro assay. Brine shrimp lethality assay used to evaluate effect at concentrations 10, 100 1000 μg/mL. test showed no significant low concentrations, whereas amplified up 17.5 % highest concentration. half lethal concentration (LC50) value against brine less than µg /mL (LC50=190 µg/ml) showing toxic nature These results provide baseline terms therapeutic formulations from with great attention which paves promise drug development.
