Evaluation of Eucalyptus woodchip utilization as fuel for thermal power plants

This paper aims to evaluate the implications of Eucalyptus woodchip utilization as an alternative solid fuel for thermal power plants, highlighting its energy properties, generation expenses and unit variable costs. Woodchip samples were collected from different sources a proximate analysis was carried out in order determine their moisture content, basic bulk densities, ash content higher heating value. Then, with these empirical indices 10-megawatt plant used simulate potential consumption, forest area needed cost (US$·MWh−1) each sample. The results indicate that lower improved value presented: reduced consumption same generation, decreased expenses, costs smaller plantations supply consumption. Greater density may result transportation storage however, does not better performance, since it is influenced by biomass field conditions. All obtained satisfactory levels which emissions pollutants superior operational efficiency. Finally, all presented below limit established government participation regulated market, might be economic attraction this kind project. Therefore, are key issues sustainable should managed plants reach performance expenses.
