چکیده

Abstract Background Deep neck space infections (DNIs) are a major medical concern in the Indian community. Owing to complex anatomy of spaces and their communication with each other, accurate diagnosis becomes challenging. A thorough knowledge as well microbiological profile antibiotic sensitivity is imperative institute appropriate surgical management patient. Due advent broad-spectrum antibiotics, incidence these have declined considerably over last couple decades. However, due extensive unregulated use, resistance has also been increasing at an alarming pace. Materials Methods This cross-sectional observational study was conducted Department Otorhinolaryngology tertiary care government hospital urban area. All patients who presented OPD or emergency period 18 months fulfilled eligibility criteria were included study. Pus collected from abscess, aseptically by needle aspiration using wide bore (18G) transported under all aseptic measures within 24 hours for culture sensitivity, KOH mount, detection AFB. Antibiotic testing done Kirby Bauer disc diffusion method E-test. Results Staphylococcus aureus most common infective organism followed MRSA pediatric age group Klebsiella pneumoniae adults. Conclusion Primary individual ensure prompt adequate treatment patient higher chances complete resolution, concomitantly minimizing risk resistance. Inadequate delayed may lead swift progression disease significant morbidity mortality.
