Inactivation of Cryptosporidium parvum Oocysts by Ammonia.
The survival of Cryptosporidium parvum oocysts in soil and water microhabitats may be affected by the environmental production and release of free ammonia. The objective of this study was to determine the effects of increasing free ammonia concentrations and times of exposure on oocyst viability. Wild-type oocysts were obtained from naturally infected calf feces by chemical (continuous-flow) ce...
متن کاملThymic epithelial cells of severe combined immunodeficiency (SCID) mice.
To characterize thymic epithelial cells of SCID (severe combined immunodeficiency) mice in comparison with those of Balb C mice, we did an immunohistochemical study using cortical and medullary epithelial cell specific monoclonal antibodies (MoAbs), Th-3 and Th-4, as well as gel electrophoresis and immunoblotting. The thymi of SCID mice were composed of epithelial cells and a few lymphocytes. M...
متن کاملRotifers ingest oocysts of Cryptosporidium parvum.
Six genera of rotifers including Philodina, Monostyla, Epiphanes, Euchlanis, Brachionus, and Asplanchna were exposed to oocysts of Cryptosporidium parvum cleaned of fecal debris. Unstained oocysts and those stained with fluorescein-conjugated monoclonal antibody were added to suspensions of viable rotifers and were examined by phase-contrast, differential interference contrast, and fluorescence...
متن کاملComparison of Cryptosporidium parvum and Cryptosporidium wrairi by reactivity with monoclonal antibodies and ability to infect severe combined immunodeficient mice.
Twenty-three monoclonal antibodies raised to Cryptosporidium parvum and 12 raised to C. wrairi reacted with equal intensity with the heterologous species. Despite demonstration of a close immunologic relationship between these two species, C. wrairi did not induce persistent infection in severe combined immunodeficient mice as did C. parvum.
متن کاملEfficacy of amine-based disinfectant KENO™COX on the infectivity of Cryptosporidium parvum oocysts.
Cryptosporidium parvum is a zoonotic protozoan parasite that may cause severe neonatal diarrhoea or even mortality in newborn ruminants: its oocysts are extremely resistant to normal environmental conditions and to most common disinfectants. KENO™COX, a patent pending amine-based formula, was tested for its ability to inactivate C. parvum oocysts. The Daugschies assay (2002), a standardized ass...
