Evaluating Satellite Soil Moisture Datasets for Drought Monitoring in Australia and the South-West Pacific

چکیده

Soil moisture (SM) is critical in monitoring the time-lagged impacts of agrometeorological drought. In Australia and several south-west Pacific Small Island Developing States (SIDS), there are a limited number situ SM stations that can adequately assess soil-water availability near-real-time context. Satellite datasets provide viable alternative for drought provision these regions. this study, we investigated performance Moisture Active Passive (SMAP), Ocean Salinity (SMOS), Operational Products System (SMOPS), from Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer 2 (AMSR-2) Scatterometer (ASCAT) over SIDS. were first evaluated Australia, given presence in-situ state-of-the-art hydrological model—the Australian Water Resources Assessment Landscape modelling system (AWRA-L). We further accuracy satellite through Triple Collocation analysis with two other reference datasets—ERA5 reanalysis data model Global Land Data Assimilation (GLDAS) dataset. All have differing observation periods ranging 1911-now, common period observations between 2015–2021. Results demonstrated ASCAT SMOS consistently superior their performance. Analysis six SIDS indicated reduced all products, still performing better than others most median R values 0.3–0.9. conducted case study 2015 El Niño Positive Indian Dipole-induced Papua New Guinea. It was shown valuable dataset indicative nation, highlighting value using products to early warning data-sparse regions Pacific.

Ideas for Extending the Approach to Evaluating Health in All Policies in South Australia; Comment on “Developing a Framework for a Program Theory-Based Approach to Evaluating Policy Processes and Outcomes: Health in All Policies in South Australia”

Since 2008, the government of South Australia has been using a Health in All Policies (HiAP) approach to achieve their strategic plan (South Australia Strategic Plan of 2004). In this commentary, we summarize some of the strengths and contributions of the innovative evaluation framework that was developed by an embedded team of academic researchers. To inform how the use of HiAP is evaluated mo...

Indian and Pacific Ocean Influences on Southeast Australian Drought and Soil Moisture

The relative influences of Indian and Pacific Ocean modes of variability on Australian rainfall and soil moisture are investigated for seasonal, interannual, and decadal time scales. For the period 1900–2006, observations, reanalysis products, and hindcasts of soil moisture during the cool season (June–October) are used to assess the impacts of El Niño–Southern Oscillation (ENSO) and the Indian...

the search for the self in becketts theatre: waiting for godot and endgame

this thesis is based upon the works of samuel beckett. one of the greatest writers of contemporary literature. here, i have tried to focus on one of the main themes in becketts works: the search for the real "me" or the real self, which is not only a problem to be solved for beckett man but also for each of us. i have tried to show becketts techniques in approaching this unattainable goal, base...

An Operational In Situ Soil Moisture & Soil Temperature Monitoring Network for West Wales, UK: The WSMN Network

This paper describes a soil moisture dataset that has been collecting ground measurements of soil moisture, soil temperature and related parameters for west Wales, United Kingdom. Already acquired in situ data have been archived to the autonomous Wales Soil Moisture Network (WSMN) since its foundation in July 2011. The sites from which measurements are being collected represent a range of condi...

Benchmarking a Soil Moisture Data Assimilation System for Agricultural Drought Monitoring

Agricultural drought is defined as a shortage of moisture in the root zone of plants. Recently available satellite-based remote sensing data have accelerated development of drought early warning system by providing continuous soil moisture information in space and time. Nonetheless, the shallow sensing depth (top few cm) and uncertain accuracy of currentlyavailable satellite soil moisture retri...
