Estimation of Spectral Notches From Pinna Meshes: Insights From a Simple Computational Model
نویسندگان
چکیده
While previous research on spatial sound perception investigated the physical mechanisms producing most relevant elevation cues, how spectral notches are generated and related to individual morphology of human pinna is still a topic debate. Correctly modeling these important in particular lowest frequency notches, an essential step for individualizing Head-Related Transfer Functions (HRTFs). In this paper we propose simple computational model able predict center frequencies from ear meshes. We apply such highly controlled HRTF dataset built with specific purpose understanding contribution HRTF. Results show that approximate notch improved accuracy respect other state-of-the-art methods. By contrast, fails higher-order correctly. The proposed approximation supplements involved generating experimental HRTFs.

Directionality derived from pinna-cue spectral notches in cat dorsal cochlear nucleus.
We tested two hypotheses to determine whether dorsal cochlear nucleus (DCN) neurons are specialized to derive directionality from spectral notches: DCN neurons exhibit greater spectral-dependent directionality than ventral cochlear nucleus (VCN) neurons, and spectral-dependent directionality depends on response minima (nulls) produced by coincidence of best frequency (BF) and spectral-notch cen...
متن کاملMinimum-Phase HRTF Modeling of Pinna Spectral Notches using Group Delay Decomposition
Accurate reconstruction of HRTFs is important in the design and development of high quality 3D binaural sound synthesis systems. Conventionally, minimum phase HRTF model development for reconstruction of HRTFs has been limited to minimum phase-pure delay models which ignore the all pass component of the HRTF. In this paper, a novel method for minimum phase HRTF modeling of Pinna Spectral Notche...
متن کاملExtracting the frequencies of the pinna spectral notches in measured head related impulse responses.
The head related impulse response (HRIR) characterizes the auditory cues created by scattering of sound off a person's anatomy. The experimentally measured HRIR depends on several factors such as reflections from body parts (torso, shoulder, and knees), head diffraction, and reflection/ diffraction effects due to the pinna. Structural models (Algazi et al., 2002; Brown and Duda, 1998) seek to e...
متن کاملThe Mechanics of Metastasis: Insights from a Computational Model
Although it may seem obvious that mechanical forces are required to drive metastatic cell movements, understanding of the mechanical aspects of metastasis has lagged far behind genetic and biochemical knowledge. The goal of this study is to learn about the mechanics of metastasis using a cell-based finite element model that proved useful for advancing knowledge about the forces that drive embry...
متن کاملA Simple Sample Preparation with HPLC-UV Method for Estimation of Clomipramine from Plasma
Clomipramine is a tricyclic antidepressant. Different methods for determination of clomipramine hydrochloride in plasma have been described. Most of these procedures favor the use of acidic back-extraction in extraction procedure and HPLC as the analytical technique. In this study, the clomipramine extraction procedure was modified and a direct injection to the column was performed to shorten t...
