Estimation of N2O emissions from wastewater characteristics in constructed wetlands

چکیده
Conventional wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) contribute significantly to the nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions. On other hand, contribution of constructed wetlands (CWs) N2O emissions is not clear. In this study, a literature review was initially conducted study factors that are correlated with from these systems. Afterwards, statistical formula developed using metaregression method for estimating emission (EFs) CWs. This related EFs influent characteristics (chemical oxygen demand-COD, total nitrogen-TN, COD/TN) and applied 56 small Greek settlements predicting in an alternate scenario where CWs technology would be instead conventional WWTPs. The estimated at ranged between 0.21% 3.20% (as N2O/TN load), while average value equal 0.94%. specific 60.82 mg per day person equivalent. application different scenarios strength showed lowest EF expected high initial COD TN concentrations. To compare WWTPs, Ordinary Least Squares multiple regression also develop general equation relates WWTPs characteristics. According results, larger 77% studied cases compared found if CW had been instead.

Removal Mechanisms in Constructed Wastewater Wetlands
The use of constructed wetlands is a relatively new technology but the system is gaining popularity due to its low tech system for treating wastewater (DeBusk, 1999b).Constructed wetlands have found to be effective in treating domestic wastewater where municipalities are concerned with reducing suspended solids, organic matter, phosphorus, nitrogen, and pathogens. Constructed wetlands mimic nat...
متن کاملApplications of Constructed Wetlands for Wastewater Treatment
During the past decades, the high cost of conventional treatment processes has produced much economic pressure and they are not as natural methods as we expected. Thus, engineers begin to search for some creative, cost effective, and environmentally sound ways to treat wastewaters. Constructed wetland is a man made system which provides us many benefits and it is a very attractive way for many ...
متن کاملConstructed Wetlands for Wastewater Treatment: A Review
The first experiments on the use of wetland plants to treat wastewaters were carried out in the early 1950s by Dr. Käthe Seidel in Germany. The first full scale systems were put in operation during the late 1960s and since then constructed wetland systems have been spreading throughout the world. At present, there are several types of constructed wetlands used for wastewater treatment. Free wat...
