Estimation of Flood Discharges for Various Return Periods at Kabini Dam Using Statistical Approach

Determination of magnitude floods for various recurrence intervals at a point serves vital information to design any hydraulic structure, water resource managers in management water, preparedness with regard possible flood annihilation etc., An attempt has been made gauge the return period Kabini dam located H.D Kote, Mysuru subjecting collected inflow data 31 years frequency analysis. Three statistical methods, namely: Log normal distributions, Pearson Type-III distribution, Gumbel’s extreme value Type-I distributions are used estimating discharges. The check best fit distribution observed is evaluated by Graphical technique and Parametric approaches like F-test, T-test Z-test. In present work set data, (Type-I) fitted well revealing least deviation compared other two both Statistical techniques. Hence periods includes: 5, 10, 20, 50, 100 were calculated using distribution. estimated discharge helps taking necessary precautionary measures also regulating flow site when it bound occur.
