Estimating True Species Richness from Braun Blanquet Scale

نویسندگان

چکیده

Aim of study: The goal the study was to estimate true species richness from Braun Blanquet (BB) scale data.
Area Yazılı Canyon Nature Park (YCNP) located in Mediterranean Region Turkey.
Material and methods: A bias-corrected approach adapted based on Good-Turning frequency formula (S_est ) for 9 vegetation plots under three scenarios (Rare are singletons: with 1/1 probability 〖(Sc〗_1), 1/2 (〖Sc〗_2), 1/3 〖(Sc〗_3)).
Main results: results indicate that increasing uncertainty about number singletons, difference between expected observed decreases. To taken YCNP, scenario III (〖Sc〗_3 seems be best option due existing maximum concerning singletons.
Highlights: All proposed estimators have been developed by considering abundance or incidence-based data except S_est. For employing S_est, all consists singletons (f_1 super doubletons (f_(2+) ). f_1 f_(2+) can obtained BB because its "r" code usually corresponds f_1. However, some scientists prefer use description a few species. That causes an Using this offers spreadsheet program even though is uncertain.

Estimating species richness

Measuring species richness is an essential objective for many community ecologists and conservation biologists. The number of species in a local assemblage is an intuitive and natural index of community structure, and patterns of species richness have been measured at both small (e.g. Blake & Loiselle 2000) and large (e.g. Rahbek & Graves 2001) spatial scales. Many classic models in community e...

Estimating species richness from quadrat sampling data: a general approach.

We consider the problem of estimating the number of species (denoted by S) of a biological community located in a region divided into n quadrats. To address this question, different hierarchical parametric approaches have been recently developed. Despite a detailed modeling of the underlying biological processes, they all have some limitations. Indeed, some assume that n is theoretically infini...

Estimating species richness using environmental DNA

The foundation for any ecological study and for the effective management of biodiversity in natural systems requires knowing what species are present in an ecosystem. We assessed fish communities in a stream using two methods, depletion-based electrofishing and environmental DNA metabarcoding (eDNA) from water samples, to test the hypothesis that eDNA provides an alternative means of determinin...

Estimating global species richness using symbolic data meta-analysis

Global species richness is a key biodiversity metric. Concerns continue to grow over its decline due to overexploitation and habitat destruction by humans. Despite recent efforts to estimate 3 global species richness, the resulting estimates have been highly uncertain and often logically inconsistent. Estimates lower down either the taxonomic or geographic hierarchies are often larger than thos...

Effect of Environmental Variation on Estimating the Bacterial Species Richness

Estimating the species richness of microorganisms is of great importance in predicting, maintaining and managing microbial communities. Although the roles of environmental heterogeneity and geographical distance in structuring soil microbial communities have been studied intensively, the effects of environmental and spatial variation on the species richness estimation have not been examined. To...
