Balanced truncation model reduction of periodic systems
The balanced truncation approach to model reduction is considered for linear discrete-time periodic systems with time-varying dimensions. Stability of the reduced model is proved and a guaranteed additive bound is derived for the approximation error. These results represent generalizations of the corresponding ones for standard discrete-time systems. Two numerically reliable methods to compute ...
متن کاملThe balanced truncation error bound in Schatten norms
The first main result in this article provides an error bound for balanced truncation where the matrix norm used is a general Schatten norm rather than the usual operator norm. The second main result in this article is that for the Schatten 1-norm (the trace class norm) this bound, for systems with a semi-definite Hankel operator, is in fact an equality. This class of systems for which we obtai...
متن کاملBalanced Truncation for Stochastic Linear Systems with Guaranteed Error Bound
We consider model order reduction of stochastic linear systems by balanced truncation. Two types of Gramians are suggested, both satisfying generalized Lyapunov equations. The first is motivated by energy functionals, the second is taylored to yield an error bound for the truncated system.
متن کاملOptimal Hankel norm model reduction by truncation of trajectories
We show how optimal Hankel-norm approximations of dynamical systems allow for a straightforward interpretation in terms of system trajectories. It is shown that for discrete time single-input systems optimal reductions are obtained by cutting ’balanced trajectories’, i.e., by disconnecting the past and future in the input-output pairs relating to leftand right singular vectors of the system. A ...
متن کاملPassivity-Preserving Balanced Truncation Model Reduction of Circuit Equations
We consider passivity-preserving model reduction of circuit equations using the bounded real balanced truncation method applied to a Moebius-transformed system. This method is based on balancing the solutions of the projected Lur’e or Riccati matrix equations. We also discuss their numerical solution exploiting the underlying structure of circuit equations. A numerical example is given.
