Ergodic Properties of an Infinite One Dimensional Hard Rod System*
It is shown that an infinite one dimensional system of hard rods for which the "effective" velocities of the pulses (free velocity plus a drift term due to collisions) are bounded away from some neighborhood of 0 is Bernoulli. This generalizes a result of Sinai who showed that some hard rod systems are X-systems.
متن کاملErgodic Properties of a System in Contact with a Heat Bath: A One Dimensional Model*
We consider a one-dimensional model of a system in contact with a heat bath: A particle (the system or molecule) of mass M, confined to the unit interval [0, 1], is surrounded by an infinite ideal gas (the bath of atoms) of point particles of mass m with which it interacts via elastic collisions. The atoms are not affected by the walls at 0 and at 1. We obtain "convergence to equilibrium" for t...

We investigate the ergodic properties of a general class of infinite systems of independent particles which undergo nontrivial "collisions" with an external field, e.g. fixed convex barriers (the Lorentz gas). We relate the ergodic properties of these systems to the ergodic properties for a single particle moving in a finite box (with periodic boundary conditions) with the same dynamics. We pro...
متن کاملTime-Displaced Correlation Functions in an Infinite One-Dimensional Mixture of Hard Rods with Different Diameters
Time-displaced conditional distribution functions are calculated for an infinite, one-dimensional mixture of equal-mass hard rods of different diameters. The kinetic equation that describes the time dependence of the one-particle total distribution function is found to be non-Markovian, in contrast with the situation in systems of identical rods. The correlation function does not contain any is...
