Equivalent material properties of the heat-affected zone in welded cold-formed rectangular hollow section connections

چکیده

A welded connection consists of three main material zones, the base (BM), heat-affect zone (HAZ), and weld metal (WM). The strength HAZ depends on BM grade manufacturing process, electrode grade, welding parameters. Under certain conditions, has lowest strength, especially for high-strength steel. Therefore, a semi-empirical methodology is proposed to establish constitutive model necessary predicting fracture position connections. This based an engineering approach consider as isotropic homogeneous material, with no consideration different volumetric fractions microstructures within HAZ. equivalent properties in butt-welded hollow section connections were investigated experimentally numerically. Hardness tests microstructure investigations conducted determine boundaries variations width stress–strain relationship was established calibrated tensile coupon finite element analyses. Using relationship, effect transverse constraint imposed by adjacent stronger (BM WM) evaluated Finally, new Swift used propose characteristics function mechanical specific procedure considered project.

The softened heat-affected zone in resistance spot welded tailor hardened boron steel: a material model for crash simulation

A hardness-based model for tailor hardened boron steel is presented that takes into account the softened heat-affected zone of resistance spot welds. The computational model is designed for crashworthiness simulation of fully and partially hardened components obtained by tailored tooling. Five different hardness grades of 22MnB5 are used for model calibration. The proposed model is validated wi...

Lateral-torsional buckling resistance of cold-formed high strength steel rectangular hollow beams

Hollow sections have been widely used for steel structures. Applications of High Strength Steel (HSS) on cold-formed hollow sections lead to thinner and lighter structures. This paper presents numerical investigations on the lateral-torsional buckling resistance of the cold-formed high strength steel rectangular hollow beam. Results from finite element analysis using Abaqus software are compare...

Thermoelastic Analysis of a Rectangular Plate with Nonhomogeneous Material Properties and Internal Heat Source

This article deals with the determination of temperature distribution, displacement and thermal stresses of a rectangular plate having nonhomogeneous material properties with internal heat generation. The plate is subjected to sectional heating. All the material properties except Poisson’s ratio and density are assumed to be given by a simple power law along x direction. Solution of the two-dim...

Review on Cold-Formed Steel Connections

The concept of cold-formed light steel framing construction has been widespread after understanding its structural characteristics with massive research works over the years. Connection serves as one of the important elements for light steel framing in order to achieve its structural stability. Compared to hot-rolled steel sections, cold-formed steel connections perform dissimilarity due to the...
