ePTFE functionalization for medical applications
نویسندگان
چکیده
Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) is a ubiquitous material used in implants and medical devices general due to its high biocompatibility inertness; blood vessels, heart, jawbone, nose, eyes, or abdominal wall can benefit from properties the case of disease injury. Its expanded version, ePTFE, an improved version PTFE with better mechanical properties, which extend applications. However, ePTFE often lack improvement such as antibacterial, antistenosis, tissue integration properties. Improvements these by several strategies functionalization for purposes are discussed this review. Covalent non-covalent bonding reviewed, including more specifically chemical impregnation, surface modification, autologous vascularization, cell seeding, mainly improving described

Engineering and Functionalization of Degradable Scaffolds for Medical Implant Applications
The treatment of bone defects is facing the situation of lacking donations for autotransplantation. As a valid approach, scaffold-based tissue engineering combines the construction of well-defined porous scaffolds with advanced cell culturing technology to guide tissue regeneration. The role for the scaffold is to provide a suitable environment with a sufficient mechanical stiffness, supports f...
متن کاملApplications of gold nanoparticles for medical imaging
Background & Aim: Molecular imaging enables us to non-invasively visualize tissue microstructures and lesion characterization, allowing accurate diagnosis of diseases at early stages. A successful molecular imaging requires a nontoxic contrast agent with high sensitivity. Nowadays, a wide range of nanoparticles have been developed as contrast agents for medical imaging modalities. Here, we revi...
متن کاملFunctionalization of metal nanoclusters for biomedical applications.
Metal nanoclusters (NCs) are emerging as a new class of functional nanomaterials in the area of biological sensing, labelling, imaging and therapy due to their unique physical and chemical properties, such as ultrasmall size, HOMO-LUMO transition, strong luminescence together with good photostability and biocompatibility. A recent surge of interest in this field is the surface functionalization...
متن کاملAtomic layer deposition-based functionalization of materials for medical and environmental health applications
Nanoporous alumina membranes exhibit high pore densities, well-controlled and uniform pore sizes, as well as straight pores. Owing to these unusual properties, nanoporous alumina membranes are currently being considered for use in implantable sensor membranes and water purification membranes. Atomic layer deposition is a thin-film growth process that may be used to modify the pore size in a nan...
